Driver Safety Program

Introduction

When operating a company vehicle for the purpose of transporting paying passengers, or in any capacity which would require the driver to possess a Commercial Driver's License (CDL), e.g. delivery, mechanics test drive, sales demo, the driver will be subject to the following guidelines which have been established for charter drivers. Drivers must possess the proper licensing to operate the size and type of vehicle they are driving.

Driver Requirements

GEM Transportation dba Central States Trailways requires all drivers to possess a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with passenger and air brake endorsement. For vehicles under 15 passengers a chauffeurs license is required. All drivers must have a clean driving record and must pass DOT pre-employment physicals. They must maintain a DOT Medical Certificate and all drivers are included in the random drug pool. (See Drug Testing Procedure Page)

We require a though criminal and previous employment background check, including fingerprint analysis check.

Driver Selection

Accident and safety control for our fleet begins with the selection of our drivers. only the most qualified drivers shall be selected.

Motor Vehicle Record Checks

All driver applicants under consideration for employment will have a motor vehicle record check. If their driving records do not meet company standards, they will not be hired. A motor vehicle record check is conducted pre-employment and every 6 months.
