Things To Do In The Lou, This Weekend!

Things To Do In The Lou, This Weekend!

Below are five of the best ways to spend this weekend in St. Louis, including Blues at the Arch, SummerMarkt, and much more!

Blues at the Arch | August 9

This weekend, The National Blues Museum and the Gateway Arch Park Foundation are kicking off their under-the-Arch concert series! Kim Masie and Kennedy Holmes, as well as Annika Chambers are headlining this weekend’s Arch ground festivities. Grab dinner and drinks from an array of restaurants, food trucks, and drink vendors on sight, then kick back and enjoy the music.

Urban Expo 2019 | August 9 – 11

August is here, which means Urban Expo is due for their 2019 return! This Back to School Community Festival’s goal is to empower their 100,000 attendees to access the programs and resources they provide to create positive change within our community’s African-American community. This year’s rendition of Urban Expo includes a job fair, book bags, family resources, health screenings, school supplies, workshops, empowerment seminars, and much more!

SummerMarkt | August 10

Calling craft beer lovers everywhere! Join fellow beer connoisseurs at Urban Chestnut’s SUMMERMARKT, and spend your Saturday drinking local brews, eating tasty food, enjoying live music, and admiring the art of 20-plus local artisans and artists. Shop local this weekend by supporting these vendors at UCBC on Washington Avenue!

Grub and Groove | August 10

Visit Francis Park’s 8th Annual Grub and Groove this weekend, a one stop shop for music, food, and drinks. This free event is perfect for all families; the kids will love the Spectrum Brands Kids Zone, and the adults will love the 4 Hands Brewing Company Draft Experience! There truly is no better way to spend a warm, summer night with loved ones than at this night in the park.

Squirmy, Slimy, Scaly, Slithery Creatures Kids Love | August 11

Feast your eyes on the coolest creatures this weekend at the Magic House’s child-friendly extravaganza. With animals as small as geckos to animals as big as pythons, visitors of all ages are guaranteed to be entertained and learn something new about reptiles. Serengeti Steve, an expert on all things reptiles, will be performing these shows and looking for tons of audience participation, promising a hands-on experience for all!

The Importance of Efficient Shuttle Service for your Event

The Importance of Efficient Shuttle Service for your Event

Transportation tends to be the last thing people think about, when planning an event, but the first and most important thing, at time of the event.

With so many things going on at once throughout the entire event, you need to make sure things are in place ahead of time. An experienced transportation company will be able provide efficient shuttle service that can help get all your guests where they need to be before, during, and after the event. Here are a few things to think about as you move forward with planning the event.

First Impressions

Making a good first impression will set the initial tone for the entire event.  Staying organized and establishing clear channels of communication will create confidence among your attendees/guests. Securing the transportation and establishing routes, to/from the airport, for out of town guests, will remove unnecessary stress and contribute to a better overall experience for all involved parties.

Planning Ahead

The amount of vehicles needed is going to vary depending on not only how many guests there are, but also how frequently people need to be traveling to and from various venues, including the hotels, airports, and other important destinations.  Planning ahead and again communicating to guests before, during and after event, is critical in this process.

Other Opportunities
Create incredible advertising opportunities by partnering with local companies, event sponsors and/or other advertisers by utilizing space on the outside of shuttles. Since these vehicles are going to be visible around the city, and seen by hundreds or thousands of people every single day, not to mention all the passengers, this is a great marketing opportunity plus can help with the overall transportation expense. Custom vehicle wraps and/or signs, can be designed and then used on the shuttles, which provides quite a large canvas to promote a particular product or company. Make sure you receive prior approval, of signage and how it will affixed to vehicle, in writing, with transportation company.

Let our reservation specialists at GEM Transportation, help with planning your event. No matter how many people you need to shuttle - we have just the right vehicle for you.

Thank you St Louis and Happy New Year

Thank you St Louis and Happy New Year

Cover Photo by Author of Downtown St. Louis on a December Night

Hope everyone had a Wonderful Christmas Holiday spending the Season with Family and Friends sharing in the true spirit and meaning;

"To give up of one's self - to think only of others - how to bring the greatest happiness to others - that is the true meaning of Christmas"

The American Magazine, vol. 28 (1889), p. 742.

This doesn't mean you have to go to extremes or try to make giving too difficult.  You can find examples of living the true meaning of Christmas all over the world, in your own communities and in your own life.  It can be a simple gesture to another, a small act of kindness or having the opportunity and time to give in any way possible.

Gateway Arch 50th Anniversary

Gateway Arch 50th Anniversary

The final section of the St. Louis Gateway Arch was set in place 50 years ago on October 28th, 1965.  This was a momentous moment in the History of the Gateway Arch and it's Engineering Accomplishments.  There were so many factors that needed to be perfect for that final piece to fit seamlessly in place.  All of the work on the two legs had to be precise so they would meet 630 feet at the top.  The Arch's surface temperature had to be just right so the completed sections had not shrunk or expanded.  And of course the weather had to cooperate so that final piece could be raised to the top, lowered in to place and secured to complete the Arch almost four years after construction began on its foundations.

On Wednesday October 28th you can meet those who constructed the Arch at the Missouri History Museum from 9:00AM to 10:30AM.  There will be a Birthday Party in front of the Old Courthouse at 11:00AM followed with $1 Tram Rides to the top of the Arch all day, cup cakes from Sarah's Cake Stop and Destination Desserts from 11:30AM to 1:30PM and Commemorative Merchandise for sale.
